I remember my Freshman year. Mary Deputie was awesome. Everytime I saw her... she reminded me of that Army chick... she was scary... the Army lady, not Mary, Mary was cool. Now that I think about it... I was such a NOOB my Freshman year... but then again, weren't we all? ^_^

NOTE: My apologies if any of the information in this post is something that should not be here. Just got done studying for a mid term exam and too tired to read through the rules thread.
I am new to this site, but a former cadet. I'm now on my 4th year at UMD (will be here 4 1/2 years). Things seem to have changed a lot since I graduated in 2003. The Unit actually has a website, and it looks far better than the one I had attempted to make way back in 03. Lieutenant Commander White is no longer with us, but I'm sure Senior Chief remembers the failed attempt at making one. (if he is still around)
I came across this site and decided to join up, though I may rarely post. Its highly unlikely anyone here knows who I am, since I graduated such a long time ago and haven't been back to Arlington since then. (though Senior Chief should still remember me)
Its also nice to see the program has an Orienteering team, maybe it can go out a win an event or two? I still remember the original version of the Orienteering team, which consisted of me as the team commander and whoever I could get to fill the roster. There was little or no interest in the team back then, but the unit managed to field a team.
Even more bizarre, is the fact I still remember the year Arlington got the program. Commander Van Sickle (my apologies if I spelled his name incorrectly) hated the idea of having all the uniform items in boxes and made a big mess in the supply room by making piles of items all over the place. Unfortunately all the people who were there that first year are long gone from Arlington.
Sadly, the first three years are long gone and the days of going from Petty Officer 2nd Class to Ensign are over. I’ll never forget the day my friend joined the unit for the first time and made Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade, platoon leader and Drill Team commander, all in only 3 days.
Notable Happenings while a cadet at Arlington:
I was one of the units original cadets (joined the first year they got it) and still remember Commander Van Sickle being the original Senior Naval Science Instructor.
Made Cadet Ensign my Senior year of 2002- 2003 (though I held no official position)
Squad leader for a period of time part of year one and part of year two.
Assistant supply officer part of Junior year (2001-2002)
First Orienteering team commander (though LCDR White sometimes considered it an unofficial position)
One of the first cadets to attend Mini Boot Camp (before being renamed Basic Leadership training)
Was on the first Academic team to win a trophy fall 2002 at the Humboldt competition.
One of the first cadets to complete the program
Made a failed attempt to design a website
My senior year was probably the only time the unit has ever had a cadet commander who failed to graduate. The said cadet commander excelled in NJROTC, but slacked off in everything else.(I have no idea if he ever did graduate)
Senior Chief had three years (Fall 2000- Spring 2003) and never figured out how to pronounced my name correctly. To be honest, I didn't even realize until the end of my senior year that I had never bothered to corect the Senior Chief.

Of course NS1 years are usually the funnest because you are just learning the ropes(unless you're already well disciplined than everything is too easy). The funnest part of being a NS1 is P.T. The NS1s are complaining about it now but they will soon regret. For those who don't know me I'm a NS2 this year. My current rank is PO3 (I should be a PO2 going to PO1 by now but there were promotion problems in my platoon during my NS1 year).

promotion problems huh? like you being too stupid to learn all your orders to the sentry or chain of command or knowing how to drill a squad?

No I'm not stupid(that's flaming). The Plt. leader and chief just "took their time" on promoting us. Many of us knew how to drill the platoon and we knew all of the C.O.C. and orders to the sentry already.

It's not flaming if I seriously ask you if you were stupid instead of telling you that you are.
